Spencer Club Reopens its Gates to Sporting Enthusiasts

Lockdown

When the lockdown was first introduced, it was heart breaking closing down the club to our 3,500 members. Cricket was hit hard by the pandemic, as the lockdown was enforced just as the season was about to start. However, whilst the club was closed our Cricket Managers used the time efficiently and worked closely with governing bodies to ensure a safe return to the sport would be possible when the lockdown restrictions were lifted.

The Return of Sport

Tennis was the first sport to return, and I must say hearing the sound of a ball on a racquet was a defining moment for the Club, and something I had truly missed! Soon after, cricket, hockey, lacrosse and squash made a comeback, and we were delighted to see parents and their children back at Fieldview. The club felt alive again! On the social side we have been able to re-open the bar so families can come down and enjoy the space again - sitting on their picnic rugs & chairs watching the sunset, whilst their children play safely on the grass.

Thank You!

We would like to say a huge thank you to our members and our sponsors for their continued support during the lockdown period - the sense of community has been overwhelming and we are truly grateful. Our Cricket Coaches have been amazed with the support since returning to the club – one of our youngest club members drew a picture of a teddy bear with cricket ball ears and gave it to a coach to say thank you!

We missed our members as much as they missed us, and we hope we have played our part in restoring hope, health and safe socialising back into our community! We are One Spencer and we will always be there for our members.
