Good To Know Guide: South Kensington

At Douglas & Gordon our South Kensington Estate Agents understand the charm and hidden opportunities of this beautiful part of the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. Carry on reading to see what our South Kensington sales and South Kensington letting agents love about the local area.

South Kensington is a quiet, leafy residential corner of London with plenty of world-class restaurants and attractive garden squares. It is no wonder that so many Londoners and expats choose to call South Kensington home.

Your future neighbours. South Kensington has long been popular with foreign-nationals. Many Middle Easterners buy homes in the area, as well as French families with children at the The Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle. While there is a shortage of large family homes, the area’s spacious apartments appeal to many European families, as well as young professionals and couples.

The great outdoors: The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is one of London’s leafiest boroughs. It boasts an impressive 23 local parks, including two of London’s Royal Parks: Kensington Gardens and Hyde Park.

Eating and drinking. Bon vivants are spoiled for choice when it comes to world-class dining. There is also a wide variety of specialty food shops outside South Kensington Underground Station (we like La Cave du Fromage and the Hummingbird Bakery). While the small South Kensington Farmer’s Market on Bute Street is a foodie’s paradise.

Shopping. Brompton Cross is the retail therapy district of South Kensington. Nearby you’ll find some of fashion’s biggest names - including Chanel, Joseph, Whistles, Jigsaw, Nicole Fahri, Ralph Lauren as well as smaller exclusive boutiques.

London’s Museum Quarter. The Natural History Museum, The Science Museum and The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) are hugely popular with tourists and local residents - with excellent exhibitions, talks, film screenings and even a festive Christmas ice-rink. The Royal Albert Hall is just around the corner, home of the famous BBC Proms.
