Southfields & Earlsfield
Good To Know Guide: Southfields & Earlsfield
Our Southfields estate agents love working in the leafy London Borough of Wandsworth which is known for its welcoming village atmosphere and close-knit community. Here are a few things our Southfields and Earlsfield estate agents love about this friendly corner of south-west London.
The Grids. The Southfields Grid and Wimbledon Park Grid are both named after the characteristic “grid-style” layout of the streets. The houses in these neighbourhoods were largely built during the Edwardian period. Some larger homes can be found around the western end of the Southfields Grid, and the southern end of the Wimbledon Park Grid. However, the charming Pulborough Triangle neighbourhood just off Wimbledon Park Road is a popular alternative.
Garden suburb. Earlsfield offers a much more diverse selection of homes than neighbouring Southfields. There is an excellent mix of spacious Edwardian maisonettes and terraced houses, alongside 1930s maisonettes and terraces originally designed by the Holloway Brothers as a “garden suburb”.
Your future neighbours. Close to great local schools, a wide selection of shops and the picturesque Wimbledon Park, Southfields Village and Earlsfield offer many families an ideal home in London. The area also has its fair share of young couples and single professionals who enjoy the strong sense of community, and convenient local transport links.
Eating, drinking and shopping. Village life in Southfields centres on Replingham Road and Wimbledon Park Road. Here you will find a range of small boutiques, independent shops, cafes and restaurants alongside larger high street brands. We love The Village Butchers, Bosa Kitchen and Field Antiques. In Earlsfield, head to Garratt Lane for a buzzy vibe with pubs, restaurants and cafes. Don’t miss local favourites Belle Ami, Been & Hop, Ben’s Canteen and Kai Chi.
Southfields & Earlsfield culture. Active residents enjoy the sporting facilities at the Spencer club, Southfields Community College, Wimbledon Park, and the excellent Battersea Ironside Rugby Club on open view. For younger children there is the popular ‘It’s a Kids Thing’ soft play on Magdalen Road. There is also a public library and the Tara theatre.
