We Love Local: The Cake Parlour

Share

If you’re one with a sweet tooth and a taste for the finer things in life, Wimbledon’s’ The Cake Parlour serves to satisfy your desire for both, simultaneously.  Frequented by celebrities and locals alike, the popular parlour produces sweet treats for those on the go, on a break, or those simply set on celebrating with the help of something remarkable.

Tell us a bit more about The Cake Parlour?

The Cake Parlour is the creation of cake designer and author Zoe Clark. It is a place where you can come in for a tea, coffee or a cupcake, and be surrounded by cakes and confections all baked fresh in the shop.

How was the idea for The Cake Parlour formed?

The Cake Parlour was opened in 2010 when demand for Zoe’s wedding cakes grew to be too much while working from her family home. She waited for a while to find the right premises, and being quite close to Wimbledon Park from her home in Southfields, Zoe knew she had stumbled upon ‘the place’ once she set her eyes on it. Zoe wanted a chic type of place, not too big or too small, where customers felt relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings. It also had to have a decent sized area for a kitchen, as classes were also a must.

What makes The Cake Parlour unique?

We believe The Cake Parlour is unique due to the quality and style of our cakes. We are super passionate about fine details and creating a memory rather than just a cake.

Who are your customers?

We don’t really have any one type of customer. Customers in the past range from young couples to elderly couples, celebrities, royalty, and anything in between. We also have quite a few regular customers just popping in for a take-away coffee and cupcakes.

What kind of atmosphere can customers expect when visiting The Cake Parlour?

When visiting The Cake Parlour customers can expect to be greeted with a smile. Most pop in when they have the time to sit back and enjoy a fresh cupcake (made from the best quality ingredients), while watching the world fly by.

What services do you offer (other than making incredible cakes)? Events? Catering? Design? Classes?

In the shop we offer cake decorating classes at various time throughout the year. Classes are a maximum of four students to ensure everyone has the help needed to make the best creations they can.

At Douglas & Gordon, we love local. Why do you love Wimbledon?

We love the area because this has been our home for nearly 10 years now. The independent retailers in the village, the parks, and the fact that the majority of our friends live within walking distance makes it a great social hub with a local feel in a big city.

Do you have any favourite spots around Wimbledon?

There are loads of places in Wimbledon we love, though would have to say the favourite is Wimbledon Park. The fact that we can be at the park with an easy 10 minute walk is great. We are really lucky to have such an expansive area so close by to escape to when cabin fever sets in.

What is your personal favourite local business in Wimbledon?

Our favorite local business in Wimbledon would have to be Park Vintners which is specialist wine shop with an amazing selection of wines. The knowledge of the staff, the price and convenience of the shop (being only a few doors up from us) is a great example why it’s often best to keep business local.
