We Love Local: Blue Boar

Tell us a little bit about Blue Boar.

Blue Boar is the hub of Westminster village.  The restaurant offers contemporary British dining and our Head Chef Rob Stephens combines fresh, regional ingredients to deliver a mouth-watering menu that celebrates the very best of what each British season brings. Blue Boar Bar is a sophisticated take on the traditional British pub, with locally brewed craft beers and ales, a fine selection of wines and spirits and an ever-evolving cocktail list.

When and how did the restaurant first begin?

Blue Boar opened its doors in December 2012.  Named after one of the oldest inns in Westminster, Blue Boar was born to challenge the traditional perception of comfort food. We are a distinctly British-inspired restaurant and bar, a short walk from Parliament, bringing a sophisticated yet robust dining experience to the Westminster village.

What do you think makes Blue Boar unique?

We have a quintessential uniqueness that is illustrated in the satirical political artwork throughout the Blue Boar by some of the most famous political cartoonists such as Gerald Scarf and Martin Rowson.

However, I think what makes us really unique is our fantastic bar and restaurant team!

What kind of atmosphere can patrons expect when coming to Blue Boar?

From the restaurant, guests can expect a modern, professional, casual fine dining experience. In the bar, expect a relaxed and humble atmosphere where locals can enjoy tankards of locally sourced craft beer and hearty ‘pub’ food.

What kind of food can we find there?

In the restaurant, you can find contemporary British cuisine; from our sustainably sourced hand dived scallops and home smoked salmon to our 28 day dry aged Colne Valley steak in the restaurant.

In the bar, we are all about hearty comfort food, with the Blue Boar Burger and our famous silver bucket of ribs taking centre stage.

Do you have a speciality? Personally, what is your favourite meal?

Our Steak Tartar is amazing! Words cannot describe.

Do you have any particularly memorable moments from your time at Blue Boar?

Blue Boar at Christmas is by far one of our favourite memorable moments since opening. The Blue Boar really comes to life during the festive season. It is the perfect party destination or if you just want to watch Westminster go by with a glass of mulled wine on one of our Chesterfield sofas - it is magical.

At Douglas & Gordon, we love local. Why do you love Westminster?

We are in the heartland of British politics where it all happens - it is very exciting to think that the future of the country is decided just down the road from here!

What are your plans for the upcoming season?

In September, our Head Chef, Robert Stephens, pays homage to the time honoured Sunday Roast with his new Sunday Lunch menu, available from Sunday 7th September.

You can enjoy free flowing nostalgic aperitifs until starters arrive. From there, diners will be taken on a journey of the British Isles, experiencing three courses of pure provenance, including our towering dessert buffet of sweet treats to end the Great British Sunday Lunch experience.

We invite all Douglas & Gordon readers to book on any Sunday in September for an introductory price of £40.00 per person instead of £45.00 per person, quoting D&G when booking.
