We Love Local: Brew Café

Tell us a little bit about Brew Café?

We're best known for our fantastic, innovative breakfasts, brunches and “brinners”, using a diverse and unusual mix of ingredients. We have three London sites, soon to be four, in Battersea, Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Putney (opening 10th November).

When and how did Brew Café first begin?

We opened the first Brew on Northcote Road in Battersea, followed closely by our sites in Wandsworth and Wimbledon. It wasn’t until I came to the UK that I saw the need for a similar type of dining experience that I’d offered to people back in Australia. I started the mission to find the perfect demographic which mirrored that of the ones I had already traded in. In London this location was to be an affluent area with young families - which we found in Northcote Road. Brew has continued to grow in and around SW London since.

What do you think makes Brew Café unique?

Our team spends a great deal of time seeking out the best ingredients for all our dishes. For example, all of our eggs come from one breed of chicken and our chorizo comes from the very well respected Brindisa.

We also love to re-invent the wheel - in our new Putney site we will be offering customers “Breakfast in Bed” packages with bookable, Bedouin inspired beds with exotically coloured blankets and fabrics from Indonesia. Included in the package, alongside Bollinger Champagne, guests will get their very own personal waiter to serve them from Brew’s personalised “breakfast in bed” menu.

What kind of atmosphere can patrons expect when coming into Brew?

Laidback, fun, relaxing - the place everyone knows and loves, and where you will always find a familiar face to smile at.

What kind of food can people expect from Brew?

Amazing breakfast and brunch dishes that can be eaten at any time of day - think Turkish eggs, poached and served with hung yoghurt and hot chilli butter or Brindisa chorizo scrambled eggs on Brew’s sourdough toast. We also serve dishes that can be enjoyed for lunch or dinner, like delicious, home-made burgers, salads and pides. We also do some amazing cakes – our red velvet is a must-try!

What is your most popular dish?

Our chorizo scrambled eggs are one of our most popular breakfast dishes - fabulous Burford Brown eggs with chorizo piled high on top of toasted sourdough bread - simple, high-quality ingredients all coming together to make a winner of a dish.

Do you personally have a favourite?

Personally, I love the ‘Brew Melt’ - it’s so fresh! We make our own pesto from fresh basil, the ham is from a rare bread farm and the gruyere cheese is lovely and sweet, this is all placed on top of our Turkish pide bread.

What do you love about working there?

We love the sense of a strong community, it is big enough to have all the items and experiences one needs from a high street, but with the feel and safety of a local village.

At Douglas & Gordon, we love local. Why do you love Battersea?

I love the closeness to London, the closeness to the Motorway North, the great restaurants, the great nightlife and of course - Brew.

Do you have any favourite spots around Battersea?

I really love the Ship for a drink below the Wandsworth Bridge. It’s great to sit and watch the water and enjoy a drink with local friends.
