Why rent in Notting Hill

There is something for everyone in Notting Hill. It is home to some of the biggest household names, who rub shoulders with some of London’s most eccentric local characters. The quirky and bohemian Portobello Road snakes through some of the area’s best addresses. Many of the street’s market stalls are open every day, and at the weekend you could while away the days browsing everything from antiques, fur and leather to local souvenirs, clothes and jewellery.  There is music playing and enticing smells coming from the large variety of food stalls creating a fun and relaxed atmosphere.  At the other end of the scale are the expensive boutiques on Westbourne Grove and the vast array of high end restaurants such as the Michelin starred The Ledbury, Granger & Co which is a firm favourite for ladies that lunch, or for something more exotic there is the exquisite pan-asian E&O.

Notting Hill boasts a huge number of garden squares and green spaces. There are communal gardens with tennis courts, small parks for walking the dogs, and for a real escape Hyde Park and Holland Park are also on the doorstep.

Every bank holiday weekend in August, Notting Hill is transformed for the biggest carnival in London. People flock from far and wide to party at the many different sound systems, drink some Caribbean rum, and indulge in some authentic jerk chicken. Police control the enormous crowds that gather to watch the floats of dancers, singers, entertainers, and the whole area is filled with a celebration of music and colour. Unbelievably, by Tuesday morning it looks like nothing has happened at all, and it is business as usual for the Notting Hill residents.

Properties in Notting Hill range from huge white detached villa style houses, some of which are still whole houses. Other are divided into stunning flats with double height ceilings and floor to ceiling windows. Many of these boast views over well maintained garden squares. Loft-style apartments are also prevalent in the Notting Hill area, often with quirky features like exposed brick work, original floorboards, vaulted ceilings etc.  Renting in Notting Hill gives you the opportunity to live in something out of the ordinary, something you might fall in love with but never dream of buying.
