The difference between D&G and Foxtons is as great as Laurent Perrier and White Lightning. D&G were responsive, helpful, realistic and most importantly, not pushy. Foxtons were not. D&G sold us the house without making us feel pressured into it. Calls were always promptly returned, and appointments were always kept (and on-time). From a buyers perspective, I would encourage any potential seller to consider D&G above some of the more wheeler dealer types who promise the world and deliver very little.

Maddie Lewington in your Notting Hill office is really an asset to your company - she is calm, efficient, polite and clearly very confident and I don't believe I would have sold my property had she not been in charge. Foxtons lost me a sale earlier in the year due to their lack of experience and general complacency, whereas D&G really worked hard for me. Maddie must have done three times the usual work to get my flat sold, and I appreciate her efforts hugely. Thanks to everyone in the W8 office.
I am also so impressed with the press you got for the flat, and that fact that you sent me press cuttings etc was amazing. I would recommend D&G to everyone, and have already done so to a neighbour who is considering selling his flat upstairs.

In two words: Sarah Blackburn... I saw 14 different agencies before committing to market the property with 3. D&G were my first choice and the reason was apparent - Ms. Blackburn gave the most excellent advice from the offset: Finely attuned and intuitive guidance as to the right market for the property; the most apt way to market it; the pros and cons of pricing it; and highly detailed snagging recommendations (which we followed almost to the letter; and with great success). I found her to be possessed of such a supremely personable and professional manner that I had no reservations at all in dealing with her in that most rare of spirits: trust. Communication during marketing was excellent; her advice always incisive and honest; her back-up and team extremely responsive and professional. Once a tenant was found - she became indispensable to the closure of the deal and to my mind (it was a very swift closure) this is where her experience and professionalism glowed it's brightest. As an agent of 20 years myself (albeit in a different field) I can recognise an excellent one in the dark. I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is a powerful asset to your excellent company. I'm writing to say what a great service I received. I struck on Nicolas Pejacsevich who was incredibly helpful and intelligent at understanding my needs and also, frankly confessing at a time that there were no properties around, that there was nothing that would accomodate my necessities. He was the one to put me in touch with the Battersea office which found me my home at the moment I extended my search to the"dreaded" SOUTH OF THE RIVER! Nicolas followed me through the purchase from start to end and was incredibly good and understanding when I could not make up my mind (given that everyone was thundering at me "don't go south of the river") and prompt when I decided to heed only my own mind. So indeed, mine could not be more positive feedback. I have received disinterested advice (which always prooves a winner), care and material help - and intelligence, which having met pretty much all the Chelsea Estate agents was not always common! I exchanged on the sale of my flat in Abbeville today and wanted to provide some feedback on the performance of Alix Stuart-Bruges throughout the process. In terms of the pitching of a property she is without doubt the best estate agent we have ever viewed a property with - mixing it up between soft and hard sales. She ticks all the boxes that you would see on your standard feedback form - enthusiastic, knowledgeable, passionate etc etc but in my mind, it is the commercial side and the closing of a deal that she is strongest. From start to finish she has been avavilable to answer any question and to cajole the buyer (as well as the seller) during any lull in the process.

I initially thought the valuation was extraordinary, but time has shown that she fully knows her market and was proved right in the fact that there was suitable demand to achieve such a price. Her efficiency in getting the property marketed was second to none and, being on call at any time of the day/night - even when on annual leave - gave us huge comfort when things didn't seem to go as smoothly as we could have hoped. Now we have completed, looking back on all of the advice that we took from Alix, I can see that she was right in every aspect, even though we may not have been as confident as her at the time (due to market conditions). I am very thankful that we opted to put our trust in her! Thank you.

At all times Claire was extremely helpful and accommodating to our requests in terms of times we could view the properties and in arranging for us to measure up the property that we moved in to. As a tenant you can often feel as if you have very few rights, and ultimately whatever your agent tells you is likely to be either unfounded or simply part of a game aiming to get the best deal on the table for the landlord. In doing so tenants can often feel rather powerless (despite the fact they are still a customer), and this only adds to the stress of actually finding a place to live. Having spent the last 3-4 weeks looking for our next property in Fulham (we are moving from Clapham after 2 years there) we were bracing ourselves for more hard work, returning endless and ultimately fruitless calls from numerous agents trying to let completely inappropriate or overpriced properties to us. This was certainly the case in the first 2 weeks, until we signed up with Douglas and Gordon (Fulham Office). I am pleased to say that our experience with your letting agents (most noticeably Charlotte Jones and Claire Dixey) was completely different. Both were extremely pleasant to deal with and for once I have to say I felt like a customer of a letting agent, rather than simply someone they had no affinity to unless you were an active tenant.
Needless to say within a week and a half of registering with Douglas and Gordon we had ourselves a perfect house in an ideal location at the right price (first property they showed us too). Having spent the previous 2 weeks being dragged round completely inappropriate properties by all the other agents, it made such a difference to have letting agents who actually listened to what we wanted and then only bothering us when they found something that matched our wish list. Clearly with all four of us working full-time this avoided the irritation of leaving work early for viewings on properties we were clearly not going to be interested in.
Having been in professional work for two years now I personally believe that the efforts of employees (whatever their level) make a more significant impact on the name and reputation of a company than they perhaps realise, and both Charlotte and Claire have not only given me a remarkably positive impression of Douglas and Gordon, but have actually changed my opinion of letting agents. Knowing that decent agents are out there is somewhat of a comfort as I suspect this will not be the last time I use letting agents in London.

I have recently sold my house in Clapham, thanks to the efforts of Alix Stuart-Bruges. It's probably unusual for a client to write to you but I feel that when one has received exceptional service, acknowledging it is the right thing to do. I put my house on the market with Douglas and Gordon soley due to her responsive attitude when I had dropped into your Abbeville Road office some time before to ask about the possibility of converting my house into flats. Then, when I decided to sell, Alix explained comparisons and guided me skilfully through the whole process of selling. Her excellent targeting of possible purchasers resulted in a very quick sale. Alix combines a very high level of professionalism with an acute understanding of clients' needs and stress levels; this has made my house much easier to bear. She is very hard-working and goes the extra mile; she is contactable on her mobile at all times, even late at night and over weekends. I know from the time noted on some of her emails that she works late into the night. She has kept in constant touch, way beyond what I hear to be normal practice from estate agents and is endlessly patient so that I feel I can ask her advice at any time. That she is highly intelligent and knows her business backwards is a bonus. The Clapham office seems to run very well. I like the fact that Tania, for example, will be as helpful as if I am one of her own clients, should Alix be out on a viewing when I drop in..
As a result of Alix's handling of my sale, I have no hesitation in recommendiing your firm to friends.

After we looked at our first property with Tania and thought about putting an offer in we chatted with a close friend who is an estate agent in Chelsea who recently bought their house through Tania. He had nothing but praise for her and this gave us confidence to move forward. This reputation that proceeded her was lived up to at every juncture of the transaction, if not more so, and we continue to sing both her and the office in generals praises. Having looked at a variety of properties with other agents in the area she was second to none in her helpfulness and no-nonsense approach. Gradually we stopped even looking with other agents as we didn't have the same level of trust and respect for their judgements and also valuations on houses. Tania's professionalism, courteousness and amiable character made purchasing the property a pleasure. Without the trust we had built in her we would not have probably submitted a sealed bid. Whilst this was somewhat tortuous and even more so for her when there were mortgage problems due to the decrepit nature of the house she remained patient and transparent which helped to keep us calm and assuage any fears. Alix and other members of the team similarly were very helpful and assisted the process along in a smooth manner. Without reservations the office was the best run, communicated in the most helpful mediums and most professional that we encountered in our search for a property in the Abbeville/Clapham area.
We would wholeheartedly recommend D&G on the Abbeville Road to other friends and indeed more generally.

Having rented properties for over 14 years we have never come across an agency as professional as Douglas and Gordon. From the first viewing of our flat (we only had to see it once to know it was the one) through to being handed the keys, your team have constantly updated us, answered questions before we even knew we had them and generally made us feel we were important. Your attention to detail in looking after tenants is amazing and you certainly lead by example in your industry. Too often estate agencies pay minimal attention to tenants and we have definitely been treated with the respect and personal attention that we feel we deserve when renting a property.
In addition we were pleasantly surprised with the fees associated with the completion of our contracts and financial checks. There doesn't seem to be any regulation regarding this in the industry and we have been put off properties before due to the high fees demanded by the estate agencies.
Whilst the boiler broke when we moved into the property, we were really impressed with the way your team handled the situation, sought to resolve the problem quickly and reimbursed our rent promptly. Given that London was under 10 cm of snow at the time and half your staff were unable to get to your office - we applaud your team further for sorting this problem out for us.
We were also really impressed with your out of office emergency help system and the number of contacts available. Only too often have we had a problem with a rented property on a Sunday to just get an answer machine response from the estate agents managing the property. Again we feel you lead by example in your industry in this respect.

Alix was thoroughly professional throughout. She quickly grasped what it was we were looking for and, while gently encouraging us to maintain an open mind, she did not waste our time showing us properties that were of no interest. She is also a mine of useful and reliable information about local resources. More generally, we appreciated the fact that, once we had exchanged contracts, we were not deluged with phoney offers of assistance with our move, etc.

We'd had a lot of viewings with another agent and Caroline and Alex tried to filter out potential buyers so that we had minimal disruption to our lives...it obviously led to fewer viewings but this translated into fewer timewasters and that's exactly what we wanted. We had to let our house when we went to live in New York for work, and it was very important to us to have someone we could rely on who would really look after it, as it is our home, rather than a rental investment property.
Lucy was always very reliable and professional, from the moment of our first contact with her. She liased with both sets of tenants very well, and was efficient at getting things done, by a reliable team of workmen. Most importantly, she continually provided us with considered, helpful and practical advice, and we very much appreciated the huge depth of experience she drew on, particularly as we were first time landlords. I was most impressed with Nic Pejacsevich who was my negotiator. The sale was not straightforward due to delays with my solicitor and he dealt with it all with such diplomacy and concern for both me as the seller and for the buyers. Also, although I was a buyer I was extremely impressed by the marketing of the property - the photographs were definitely the most professional of the agents. From a buyers' perspective, this was crucial as I did all my research through property search engines on line and so the smart D&G website was a selling point.

Truly, the odds of finding a chain free ready buyer prepared to commit (or be talked into committing) in that particular week were pretty stacked against us. The office had 12 viewings in the first week despite it being party season and the house looked less than perfect. I was completely blown away by James' professional handling of the entire process - and his absolute determination to get the right result. The whole process was a nightmare and James was, I am pretty sure, the only person who could have got it all through. He worked incredibly hard and I don't think a day went by without a call keeping me updated.

I don't really want to do any DM bashing here. For me, people's attitudes to it are changing. The result is the future of the medium is in less, more specialised stuff, higher quality pieces - and as with any medium we use, we just need to be aware of its relationship with people when we use it.
Anyway, back to estate agents. They're the worst at bombarding us with crap, so I was impressed with the bravery here. And obviously that means Douglas & Gordon come off as refreshing in the sector too.

I wanted to highlight what an excellent job Emily did letting Collingham Place this year. She always responded to emails within 24 hours and gave some excellent advice about renting our property along the way. In fact I'm sure if I'd acted on her advice earlier the flat would have rented out sooner. Emily's high standards have been matched by Jenny's too. I am writing to let you know about the absolutely top rate service I have received from your team at the Clapham South Office, in particular Alix, Charlie and Tania, they are a real credit to your organisation and I cannot speak highly enough about them. In May 2004 we bought our current property through Alix whe she was a negotiator at the Clapham South Office and we have just sold this property through her. Over the intervening period she maintained contact with us, was always available to advise on improvements we were considering and generally kept us very well informed about market trends and in particular what was going on in the Abbeville Road area. This investment in time was a material factor in us choosing to use D & G again. I have spent 20 odd years in sales in foreign exchange and am very aware of the long term investment (often overlooked) that very few people these days seem prepared to put in, and in general the poor level of customer service here in the UK. All too often we read of the negatives about estate agents and how their business is conducted, so I thought it important to pass on my personal thanks and admiration for the way Alix, Tania and Charlie have gone about managing our sale, we achieved a very good price from some buyers in a great position, we were continually informed, and when we got into a situation of multiple offers at all times I felt our interests were being looked after!
